    Thesis Abstract

    Glacial terrain is in a constant state of fluctuation, changing whole territories as a glacier advances and leaving behind a lifeless scar as it retreats. Many cities’ infrastructures dependent upon glacial water are unprepared for the increasing water scarcity due to the melting glaciers and their increasing population. Using glacial movement and ice qualities as methodologies, a new landscape and city typology emerges in this fluctuating glacial terrain that is productive and connected to both natural and artificial systems. The main component of this landscape, an artificial glacier, provides both water and a platform of growth for the new city, situated within a coupled and networked infrastructure.
