    Artist Statement

I make works that skate on the provisional edge of objecthood and
illusion.  Within the limits of commercial materials and hand labor my
work refers to multiple realities while simultaneously acting as a flat
document of a series of physical processes:  cross- stitch on fabric,
spray paint on metal, fragments of plexiglass,  paint on paper,  nails
through everything.  By working across textile and painting traditions
my practice flattens and re-imagines traditional hierarchies of art and
craft, as well as the gender associations that are still inherent in those
categories.  Groups of fragments generate new connections between
modes of production, activate the site they are installed in and breed
new recombinant categories. Collaborating (in this body of work, with
my five year old son) is a generative force in the work. The process
of addition and subtraction across materials refers to and enacts an
experience of time that can just as easily slip out from under you as
give you everything back at once.   My process aims to reflect
impermanence and impossibility – the dual experience of fleeting
    physicality.
